December 23, 2015 Bench Shelters, Trellises, Railings and Gates
Here are a few recently completed projects from 2015. From the top down we have a sitting shelter completed for the Locust Grove Historic Site in Poughkeepsie, NY. Locust Grove was the home of inventor and painter Samuel F. B. Morris. The next image is a sitting shelter completed for the South Mountain Conservancy and Wildflower Sculpture Park in Essex County, NJ. If you plan on visiting remember to bring your dog. It's also a dog park. The next image is our Gabrielle Trellis completed for a client in NJ. The panels are recreations of designs that can be seen at The Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, NY. After that is an image of some driveway railings for a culvert bridge in Staatsburg, NY. This is a natural free form design improvised on site. The final images are of a couple of gates built for a client in Ohio. Hopefully we will be sent final images after they are installed. |
October 1, 2015 Briarcliffe Sitting Shelter
Our Briarcliffe Sitting Shelter is a 6' square structure with two interior facing benches and an open roof built using bark-on eastern red cedar trees and branches. These images show the progression of the shelter starting at our shop in Saugerties, NY to it's final destination in Briarcliffe Manor, NY. The site will later be landscaped with soil and mulch to hide the concrete pads that it sits upon.

June 28, 2015 Alice Austen House, Staten Island, NY Tree Bench
A recent rebuild of a historic tree bench at the Alice Austen House on Staten Island, NY. The inner frame was built using pressure treated 4x4's for longevity then faced with bark-on cedar half-round logs. For the bench seat we used roughed up cedar 2x6's. A beautiful bench for a beautiful location.

May 11, 2015 The Children's Museum in Easton, MA Poet's Walk Park, Red Hook, NY
Here's a recently completed children's tepee for the Children's Museum in Easton, MA. My little man agrees that it is the coolest thing ever. The museum is an incredible place to bring your kids with so many fun things to do, inside and out.
Over the years we have built several structures for their 'Wild Place' outdoor play area. Back in 2006 we built a beautiful 12' summerhouse, a two story children's tower, and an entrance arbor and gate. The structures are holding up wonderfully and look even more incredible with the
addition of the new tepee. If your in the area be sure to check it out. We also had the opportunity to build a memorial sign for Poet's Walk Park in Red Hook, NY. You can see Parker's Place for yourself if you walk down towards the river and summerhouse at the north west of the park. We also have a few benches down there so you can relax and enjoy the view.

April 30, 2015 Huguenot Deck Railings
This was a very satisfying project. We took measurements of the deck before last winter so we could build the railings at our shop and be ready to install first thing in the spring. You can see some images of the shop construction in one of our earlier blog posts from January. We built a jig to represent the deck facia on the floor of our shop, then built about 18' of railing at a time. When we finally were able to install we found that everything fit perfectly snug around all of the deck corners. The installation took us less than two days which included the construction of the stair case railings on site. The clients were extremely happy with the final results of our hard work and we couldn't of had a more beautiful place to work.

April 11, 2015 Completed Projects - Shop View
We've been very busy the last couple of months trying to keep up with all the new projects we've acquired since the smell of spring has been in the air. Our shop is full of completed work and we are just waiting for the sun to come out to deliver and install them. We have one of our beautiful mountain laurel benches being delivered this weekend to it's home in Hudson, NY, a child's teepee going to the Children's Museum of Easton, a small table for a gazebo in Dutchess County, one of our cedar benches in our 'Milan' design style, and a memorial sign for Poet's Walk Park in Red Hook, NY. If you haven't been to Poet's Walk Park be sure to put it on your list of places to visit. We'll have more updates soon. |
January 28, 2015 Huguenot Deck Railings & Materials
Even in the middle of the winter we still have plenty to keep us busy. We are currently working on some deck railings for a client in Huguenot, NY as well as gathering materials for upcoming projects. For the railings we took detailed measurements on site so we could completely build everything at our shop. Once spring arrives we will be ready to install with minimal time spent on site. |
